Rubanga Cooperative Society Limited
RCS has 9,328 members in 400 farmer groups, mostly in Mitooma district, with a few in Rukungiri. About half our members are women and about 1,300 members are under the age of 35. We own and operate a coffee-hulling and maize-milling factory in Rubanga trading centre, which stands on four acres of land, mostly under coffee. The coffee hulling equipment is basic and will need replacing as time goes on. RCS was founded in 1986 but collapsed with liberalisation in the 1990s, and re-started serious coffee business operations in 2012 after many years in the doldrums. In 2014 we processed 693,700kgs of clean coffee and in 2015 327,000kgs in our dry mill. The reason for the volume collapse in 2015 was a heavy hailstorm during the flowering period which destroyed about half the coffee crop in our operational area.
