Rubanga Cooperative Society Ltd is owned and managed by farmers and currently has 20,578 members organized into 421 farmer groups. Its headquarters are located in Mitooma District. The cooperative collaborates with 13 affiliated cooperatives in western Uganda. Among its members, 48% are female, 52% are male, and 32% are youth.
Founded in 1986 by visionary leaders dedicated to community transformation and improving livelihoods, Rubanga is triple-certified with Fairtrade, Rainforest, and Organic certifications. These certifications enable members to receive premiums and better market prices beyond the prevailing market rates.
Historically, the cooperative focused on local trading until 2021 when it acquired an export license. This shift allowed them to transition from local sales to international trade, effectively overcoming production barriers within the community.
